Legal Action of Wisconsin
The Oshkosh office of the Legal Action organization serves low-income people from Fond du Lac County with specific issues such as housing, jobs, public benefits, family law, victims rights.

LIFT Wisconsin
A number of non-profit organizations collaborated to create LIFT Wisconsin, which can give qualified residents free help with child support, eviction records, drivers license, and criminal records issues through their “legal tuneup” services.

MVLC - Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic
The legal clinics at Marquette Law School offer free brief legal advice and referrals. They are staffed by law students and lawyers. They have in-person and remote clinics by phone and Zoom. For more info or to get on the waiting list click here.

Lawyers for Learners
An organization called Lawyers for Learners can connect community members to lawyers or legal organizations in various areas (NOT criminal defense or injury cases). You can find out more and seek their help online.

Free Legal Answers
You can post a question on wi.freelegalanswers.org and a volunteer lawyer may respond.

State Bar Modest Means Program
People of limited means but not poor enough to qualify for free services may be eligible for help through the “Modest Means” program of the state bar.

Additional legal resources:

Pro Se Program. There is a Pro Se Legal Clinic at the county courthouse that can offer help in family law and probate matters.

Victims and Witnesses. If you were a victim of a crime or a witness to a crime, you have constitutional and statutory rights under Wisconsin law, and the Victim/Witness Program at the District Attorney’s office may be able to help you. Legal Action of Wisconsin offers support for victimes of crime through its offices throughout the state, and Wisconsin DCF has a web page of resources for crime victims.

State Bar Lawyer Referral & Information Service. The Wisconsin bar association can help you find a lawyer.

Immigration Law Resources:

General Information/Trainings: The ACLU has a page with general information about legal rights. The Milwaukee Turners also has a training document on its website with general information.

Legal Centers and Clinics: Catholic Charities serves local immigrants through offices throughout Wisconsin, including Fond du Lac and Beaver Dam. In Madison, there is Community Immigration Law Center and the RISE Law Center , and the law school has an immigration law clinic.

Other Community Organizations: A number of other organizations may provide services or referrals for immigrants in Wisconsin: the International Institute of Wisconsin, Voces de la Frontera, (both in Milwaukee), and James Place Immigration Services (Milwaukee and Waukesha locations).

Other Community Resources

County Social Services and ADVOCAP

The Fond du Lac County Department of Social Services offers help for wide variety of needs - child welfare, family services, aging and disability resources, etc. Contact information and more is available on their website.

A local nonprofit called ADVOCAP offers help in Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago counties, including homeowners assistance, food and nutrition, and job searching.

Housing

Fond du Lac County has a housing authority that may be able to help you find a place to live.

The Solutions Center helps people dealing with domestic violence and homelessness. They have an online directory of many community resources available.

The Tenant Resource Center does not offer direct services outside of Madison, but it offers a lot of helpful general information about landlord-tenant law on its website.

People with Disabilities

The ARC of Fond du Lac serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They also have a listing of many Wisconsin resources for people with disabilities.

Our county Aging and Disability Resource Center offers various services to people here in Fond du Lac County. They also share information about other resources for aging and diability concerns.

Our state has a nonprofit organization called Disability Rights Wisconsin that helps people with disabilities with a number of different issues.

Food

In addition to government programs that provide food assistance for people with limited incomes (e.g, Food Share/Quest/SNAP and WIC), there are food pantries including the Fondy Food Pantry.

The local extension has additional suggestions for food assistance.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Fond du Lac offers many programs to support people with mental health conditions and their families in our community.
